Chainmail in Photoshop by plangkye Chainmail in Photoshop by plangkye
Because people were marveling at Ryoji's chain shirt, I decided to show you how I did it.

This was written for people who have a little bit of Photoshop experience already and are comfortable with the program, but you don't have to be an expert.

you call this a tutorial? applying a texture that doesn't even look like actual chainmail ?

Instructions on how to create and apply quickie effect that works really well at low resolution? Why yes, I do call this a tutorial. What's your definition?

So, I have been a lurker for years--I found your stuff at fanfic.net (Chronotrigger), came over here and found you had amazing CT art here, and now, quite by chance, you simply happen to be the first hit when I searched for a tutorial for something completely unrelated. May I just say you are quite the amazing artist and ridiculously well-rounded person?

Thanks so much for this tutorial! Saved me a lot of time. (Sorry I can't show the end result - commissioner wants it kept off the internet.)

Thank you so much for posting this! I've been trying to draw chain mail with my own hand and it's turned out bad. I was so tired with lighting effect on each link of chain... Glad to find your tutorial here <3

I use it for concept illustrations, but I actually paint the rings when I do a serious painting. That way it doesn't make me feel cheap.

It shows! All your work looks very handmade. Sometimes I wish I knew fewer tricks, so I didn't end up relying on them so much.

I suppose it is a stylistic thing... well, either way I don't like it as much as I could, I guess. It feels a little like cheating.
